Hamas hails Bahraini people’s support for Palestine

Bahrain activists opposed the US-led conference in Manama, to discuss President Trump’s Middle East plan

GAZA, Palestine (AA) – Palestine’s Islamic resistance movement (Hamas) on Thursday hailed people of Bahrain, for supporting Palestine cause.

The Hamas statement came a day after Bahrain -- an island country in the Persian Gulf -- hosted the "peace to prosperity" workshop to discuss, the economic part of President Donald Trump's "deal of the century", for solving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Over past two days, activists in Bahrain have vociferously come out against the U.S.-led conference via social media platforms, despite it being hosted by their government in Manama. Some of them, expressed rejection by raising Palestine flags on their homes.

The Hamas statement described the deal, an attempt to liquidate the Palestinian cause and bartering their rights to politicized money.

“The popular support of Bahrain for Palestine is not surprising, especially since they [Bahraini people] are known for their ethical positions,” added the Hamas statement.

The movement called on the Bahraini people to continue rejecting normalization with the "Zionist enemy."

Even as the Palestinian leadership boycotted the two-day conference, it kicked off on Tuesday.

In his inaugural speech, Jared Kushner, U.S. President Donald Trump’s senior White House adviser and son-in-law, described the peace plan as "the opportunity of the century" and not just the "deal of the century". He asserted that the U.S. officials have prepared the largest economic proposal for Palestinians and the Middle East.

Last week, the White House called $50 billion in investments for Palestine and neighboring Arab states as part of the plan, which involved increased infrastructure projects between Gaza Strip and West Bank. The White House has described the plan, as goal to "empower" the Palestinian people.

Palestinian-Israeli negotiations collapsed in April 2014, after Israel refused to stop settlement activity and to accept the two-state solution based on the pre-1967 borders. Israel has also reneged on the promise to release Palestinian detainees from Israeli jails.
