Hamas invited by Algeria for talks on Palestinian reconciliation
Political and geographical division prevailed in Palestinian territories since 2007
By Nour Abu Eisha
GAZA CITY, Palestine (AA) – Palestinian group Hamas said Saturday it has been invited by Algeria for talks on the inter-Palestinian reconciliation.
Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said a high-profile delegation will visit Algeria to discuss ways of healing the Palestinian rift.
He, however, did not provide any further details about the date of the visit.
Last week, Fatah group of President Mahmoud Abbas said it had received an invitation to visit Algeria for talks on mending fences with Hamas.
A political and geographical division has prevailed in the Palestinian territories since 2007 when Hamas seized control of the Gaza Strip.
Fatah movement has since ruled the West Bank, while Hamas took control of the Gaza Strip. Many efforts have failed to end the rift between the two rival movements.
