'High-level visits between Turkiye, Sri Lanka is way to forward binding ties'

Sri Lankan envoy to Ankara addressed current diplomatic relations with Turkiye at 'Sri Lanka-Turkiye Relations in Turkiye’s Asia Anew Initiative' symposium

ANKARA (AA) - Sri Lanka's ambassador to Ankara on Tuesday noted the necessity of continuing "high-level exchanges and regular people to people contacts" between Turkiye and Sri Lanka to further enhance ties.

Speaking at a symposium titled "Sri Lanka-Turkiye Relations in Turkiye's Asia Anew Initiative," Ambassador Mohamed Rizvi Hassen elaborated on the current status of relations between the two countries.

"Continuing high-level exchanges and regular people to people contact between Turkey and Sri Lanka is the way forward for binding relations between the two brotherly nations and enhancing economic activities," said the envoy at the symposium organized by the Political Science Faculty of Yildirim Beyazit University in Ankara.

Emphasizing the current projects between the two countries, Hassen highlighted the importance of exploring potential opportunities to the benefit of Turkiye and Sri Lanka.

A historian and an academic, Zameer Careem, also attended the event virtually and made a presentation about historical relations between Sri Lanka and Turkiye while highlighting the significant events that took place during the Seljuk and Ottoman Empire period with Sri Lanka.

The event was also attended by students from the Political Sciences Faculty, the academic staff of the Yildirim Beyazit University as well as the Embassy staff.
