Hong Kong teenager student detained for drug trafficking

ISTANBUL (AA) – In what appears to be a case of drug syndicates, a Hong Kong teenager is being questioned over illegal drug trafficking by police since Wednesday.

Hong Kong police said illegal drugs worth HK$880,000 ($112,100) were recovered from a 14-year-old student.

Police data showed that 12 male students, aged between 13 and 14, were arrested on suspicion of trafficking illegal drugs from January until September this year. They were “exploited by drug syndicates.”

In a statement to the daily South China Morning Post on Thursday, police said the student was arrested a day earlier during a raid on a public housing flat at Kwai Fong Estate in Kwai Chung.

Police found an electronic smoking device, and suspected cannabidiol oil, along with fliers advertising the sale of contraband cigarettes.

During a follow-up raid on a flat in a Tseuk Luk Street factory building in San Po Kong the same day, the police said it seized 409 grams of suspected crack cocaine, 238 grams of suspected cocaine, and 33 grams of suspected Ice (crystal meth) along with packaging equipment.

“The teen was detained on suspicion of drug trafficking, possession of a controlled drug, and possession of paraphernalia fit for illegal purposes.

“As of Thursday morning, the suspect was still being held for questioning,” the report said.

Illegal drug trafficking carries a punishment for life and a fine.
