Household consumption falls in euro area, EU in 4Q21

ANKARA (AA) - Household real consumption per capita declined in both the euro area and the EU during the fourth quarter of 2021, Europe's statistical office said in a statement on Thursday.

The figure decreased 0.8% in the euro area in the final quarter of 2021, after increasing 4.2% in the previous quarter, according to Eurostat.

In the EU, it fell 0.5% in the October-December period of 2021, after a gain of 4.2% in the quarter before.

Household real consumption per capita is the final consumption expenditure of households, in nominal terms, divided by the total population.

A decline in household real income per capita was also seen in both the euro area and the EU during the final quarter of last year, Eurostat said.

In the euro area, household real income per capita decreased 1.8% in the October-December period of 2021, after falling 0.2% in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter of last year, household real income per capita in the EU declined 1.8%, after rising 0.4% in the previous quarter.

Household real income per capita is the adjusted gross disposable income of households, in nominal terms, divided by the total population.
