An army commander is among dead, says military source

ADEN, Yemen (AA) - At least 25 military personnel were killed on Thursday in twin Houthi rebel group attacks on a military parade in Aden, Yemen, a military source said.

"The Houthi rebel group targeted a military parade in the Al-Jalaa camp in the Al-Buraiqeh district," a military source told Anadolu Agency on condition of anonymity.

According to the same source, the attack resulted in the death of 25 military personnel, including Brig. Gen. Mounir al-Yafie.

For his part, Houthi spokesman Yahia Sarie confirmed in a statement that the military parade was targeted by a drone and mid-range ballistic missile.

Earlier on Thursday, three security personnel were killed and dozens others injured in a car bomb attack on a police station in Aden’s Sheikh Othman district.

Yemen fell into civil war in 2014 when the Iran-backed Houthi group overran much of the country, including the capital Sanaa, forcing the government to flee to Saudi Arabia.

A year later, Saudi Arabia and several Arab allies launched a massive air campaign aimed at rolling back Houthi military gains.

The violence has devastated Yemen’s basic infrastructure, including its health and sanitation systems, prompting the UN to describe the situation as “one of the worst humanitarian disasters of modern times.”
