ANKARA (AA) – For the first time, the Bangsamoro autonomous regional government in the southern Philippines participated in a global forum in Chile, South America.
Kadil Sinolinding Jr., a member of the 80-seat Bangsamoro regional parliament, briefed the summit participants on hunger and malnutrition, the two serious issues besetting the Southern Philippines autonomous region, Philstar reported.
The two-day summit held on June 15-16 was organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, along with other UN agencies.
Sinolinding told the participants that Bangsamoro and the Philippines central government together are addressing hunger and malnutrition through socio-economic interventions.
“BARMM (Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao] government is grateful to foreign benefactors helping its constituent communities overcome the pangs of hunger and malnutrition via concerted efforts supported by different ministries in the autonomous region," the daily quoted Sinolinding as saying.
In 2018, a decades-long insurgency by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front led to peace negotiations with the Philippines government, and the BARMM was formed in the southern Philippines.
