ANKARA (AA) – In a Monday evening phone call, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu spoke with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba about the latest developments in Ukraine.

According to Turkish diplomatic sources, the two top diplomats addressed the latest situation in Ukraine amid the ongoing Russian war on the country that started on Feb. 24.

On Twitter, Kuleba said Cavusoglu told him about Turkiye’s ongoing efforts to end the Russian war on Ukraine.

He added that they agreed to coordinate joint efforts to restore peace in Ukraine.

“Grateful to Turkey for its solidarity at this difficult time,” Kuleba said.

The Russia-Ukraine war, which began on Feb. 24, has drawn international condemnation, led to financial sanctions on Moscow, and spurred an exodus of global firms from Russia.

At least 596 civilians have been killed and 1,067 injured in Ukraine since the beginning of the war, according to the UN. It has warned, however, that the true toll is likely much higher as it has not been able to gain access to areas of increased hostilities.

Some 2.8 million people have also fled to neighboring countries, said the UN refugee agency.
