India kills 4 militants planning attack in Kashmir
Police say militants planning to kill soldiers in attack on base
By Zahid Rafiq
SRINAGAR, Jammu Kashmir (AA) - Indian security forces killed four Kashmiri militants Monday, an official said.
The militants were trying to storm an Indian camp in the Sumbal area, 30 kilometers (19 miles) from the capital Srinagar, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) said in a statement. Nineteen troops were killed in a similar attack in Uri last year, the force added.
"All four militants were foreigners and they were eliminated before they could enter the camp," a senior CRPF official told Anadolu Agency.
Police chief Shesh Paul Vaid tweeted a photograph of automatic rifles, ammunition and grenades he said had been recovered from dead militants.
More than 70,000 people have been killed since 1989, when Kashmiri separatists launched a campaign to free the region from Indian rule.
