Indian police arrest 'Pakistani spy agency informants'

4 suspects have been booked in central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh on charges of waging war against India

NEW DELHI, India (AA) - Police arrested four suspects in central Madhya Pradesh state Friday for allegedly acting as informants for Pakistan military’s spy agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), a senior state police official said.

Eleven other suspects were arrested on the same charge from different cities of the state on Thursday.

Speaking to the media, the state’s Anti-Terrorist Squad Chief Sanjiv Shami said: “These persons were sending sensitive information to Pakistan-based handlers and even assisting in terror activities.

“At least 40 SIM boxes and 3,000 SIM cards were seized from them.”

Police booked the suspects on charges of waging war against India.

The squad said it also busted a parallel telephone exchange network in two cities which had been allegedly used for converting internet calls to cellular calls, which then supposedly helped the ISI in getting in touch with its operatives in India.

Police also said one of the suspects was a close relative of a leader of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The suspects have been accused of collecting confidential information on locations of army and other security forces, and sharing it with the Pakistani spy agency through social media.

“People from few telephone companies were also involved in this case,” Shami said, adding the police was on the lookout for more suspects.
