Ma’ruf Amin cancels trip due to health problems, foreign minister to attend event representing him

By Dandy Koswaraputra

JAKARTA (AA) - Indonesia’s vice president cancelled his scheduled visit to Malaysia to attend the Kuala Lumpur summit, citing health problems, an official said on Wednesday.

“The team of doctors concluded [Vice President] Ma’ruf Amin must take a rest,” his spokesman Masduki Baidowi told Anadolu Agency.

Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi will attend the event to represent the VP and the Indonesian government, Baidowi added.

Early December, in an exclusive interview with Anadolu Agency, Amin said he couldn’t conclude whether the KL Summit will strengthen the Organization of Islamic Cooperation or form a new body that provides new values to strengthen and empower Islamic countries.

The summit will host leaders of Muslim world between Dec. 18-21 to discuss various issues from independence to development, administration, identity and culture, justice and freedom.
