INFOGRAPHIC - Last 111 FETO cases of defeated coup pending in Turkey

ANKARA (AA) – Out of a total of 287 Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) cases in Turkey since the deadly coup bid in 2016, 111 are pending, according to data compiled by Anadolu Agency.

FETO and its U.S.-based leader Fetullah Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, which left 250 people martyred and some 2,200 injured.

Turkey accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police and judiciary.

Since July 2016, Turkish chief public prosecutors carried out more than 100,000 investigations into the terror group.

Verdicts were pronounced in 176 cases out of 287 that were filed against those linked to the defeated coup.

Out of over 887 life sentences handed down, the courts ordered aggravated life sentences for 631 convicts.

Among them were 49 former generals, 418 former military officers, 101 former sergeants, 32 former specialized sergeants, one former police chief, 16 former military students, four former engineers, two former teachers, two former police officers and six civilians.

Nine other former generals, 209 former officers, 91 former sergeants were among 887 convicts sentenced for life.

Separately, 647 convicts were sentenced to jail terms ranging from 14 months to 20 years.

The 111 cases are expected to be concluded by the end of this year.
