INFOGRAPHIC -Turkey arrests 105 Daesh suspects in March

Turkey struck heavy blow to terror group in domestic and cross-border operations

MALATYA, Turkey (AA) - Security forces in March arrested 105 Daesh suspects threatening Turkey’s peace and security in domestic and cross-border operations.

According to information compiled by Anadolu Agency, the counter-terror operations were conducted by the Turkish Armed Forces, General Directorate of Security, Gendarmerie General Command and National Intelligence Organization.

Among the suspects, 14 were remanded in custody.

Some of the suspects were deported and others are being held on trial.

The suspects include a group which had crossed the Turkish-Syrian border illegally.

Authorities said one of the suspects, identified by the initials A.S., was a police officer in Dubai who had trained as a suicide bomber in Syria.

Also, a woman with the initials A.A.M was arrested. It was learned that the Danish citizen of Lebanese origin was sought by the Interpol with a red notice.

A fake Danish passport was also seized from her house.


- Trial of Daesh suspects

In Ankara, 52 people were convicted for alleged links with Daesh terrorist organization. Of them 37 were sentenced to six years in prison.

Eight terrorists received aggravated life sentences for killing 57 people at a wedding in southeastern province of Gaziantep.

Neil Chistopher Prakash, an Australian national, was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in prison for being a senior Daesh member.

Another terrorist, Mahmut Ozden was sentenced to six years and three months in prison.

At least 319 people have lost their lives in Daesh terror attacks in Turkey, where the terror organization has targeted civilians in suicide bomb, rocket and gun attacks.

Since 2016, Turkey has led two military operations in northern Syria to clear the region of terrorists, including those belonging to Daesh.
