6 people reported injured after vintage Boeing B-17 crashes at Bradley International Airport in Connecticut

By Michael Hernandez

WASHINGTON (AA) - Multiple people were reportedly injured Wednesday after a World War II-era plane crashed at Bradley International Airport in Connecticut.

Six patients were brought to a nearby hospital after the vintage Boeing B-17 aircraft crashed, local CBS affiliate WFSB reported.

The airport confirmed the accident, which it said involved "a Collings Foundation World War II aircraft," referring to a foundation that preserves historic automobiles and aircraft.

"We have an active fire and rescue operation underway. The airport is closed. We will issue further updates as information becomes available," the airport wrote on Twitter.

The B-17 crashed at the end of runway 6 while attempting a landing, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. It is a civilian-registered aircraft not flown by the military, and the FAA said it has put in place a ground stop for aircraft flying into the airport.
