Iran cites US duplicitious attitude to nuclear program

ANKARA (AA) - Iran’s foreign minister said Wednesday that Washington has adopted a contradictory position towards Terhan’s nuclear program and that of the U.S.'s clients.

"Kill 3,000+ Americans but remain a US client and you can have nuclear weapons—even get help in acquiring them," Javad Zarif said on Twitter, in an apparent reference to Saudi Arabia as the power behind the deadly Sept. 11, 2011, terror attacks in the U.S.

His remarks are the latest in escalating tensions between the U.S. and Iran since President Donald Trump decided to renege on a nuclear agreement between Iran and world powers that gave Terhan relief from sanctions in exchange for unprecedented access to nuclear facilities.

"But refuse to bow to #B_Team 's whims, you can't even possess peaceful nuclear energy," Iran’s top diplomat said.

Zarif went on to say that “Iran is killing [Daesh]” terror group while the U.S. provides support to it.

The terror attacks in 2001 claimed nearly 3,000 lives when hijackers took control of passenger aircraft and crashed two into the World Trade Center in New York, and another into the Pentagon in Washington.

A fourth plane likely headed for either the White House or the U.S. Capitol Building was prevented from reaching its target after passengers wrested control from hijackers before it crashed in an empty field in Pennsylvania.

American intelligence officials determined that 15 of the 19 hijackers were of Saudi origin.

Saudi Arabia has denied any role in the attacks.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who the U.S. accused of masterminding the attacks, recently said he was open to cooperating with victims in their lawsuit against Saudi Arabia.
