Iran hails Jordanian king's statement on seeking good ties

King Abdullah II said all Arab states would seek better relations with Iran on principles of good neighborliness

ISTANBUL (AA) - Iran on Monday welcomed a statement by Jordanian King Abdullah II on seeking to enhance relations with Tehran.

In a statement, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani said his country awaits "practical steps" in this regard.

Kanani said that without Iran's effort to fight terrorism in Syria and Iraq, "Jordan's security would be threatened as well."

"Iran continues its role to support the security and stability in the region, and we welcome the positive statements on constructive steps for the region," Kanani added.

On Sunday, the Jordanian king told the local Al-Rai newspaper that all Arab states, including Jordan, would seek good relations with Iran on the principles of good neighborliness, mutual respect for sovereignty, and non-interference in each other's internal affairs.

Improvement in ties is subject to Iran changing its behavior "in the interest of everyone in the region," he added.
