Iran says deal ‘close’ in Vienna nuclear talks

Iran says clear text of agreement reached, political decision needed to implement it

TEHRAN, Iran (AA) – Iran said Monday that an agreement is close with world powers on reviving the 2015 nuclear deal in Vienna.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Habibzadeh told reporters that the two sides have reached a clear text on all issues during the Vienna talks.

"It is not unlikely that the next round of talks in Vienna will be the last,” Habibzadeh said. “We have reached a clear text on all issues. All that remains is for all parties to make a political decision.”

“If a political decision is taken, we can be hopeful that we have reached the final point of the negotiations,” the spokesman said.

The sixth round of talks between Iran and world powers in Vienna on reviving the 2015 nuclear deal were adjourned on Sunday, as delegates returned to their respective capitals for consultations and final decisions.

In 2018, former US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew Washington from the 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran, in a move aimed to bring Tehran back to negotiations for what Trump hoped would be a "better" deal.
