TEHRAN (AA) - Iran plans to launch two satellites into space next week, President Hassan Rouhani announced Thursday.
Speaking at a ceremony marking the second anniversary of the death of former President Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, Rouhani said that "locally manufactured rockets" would be used to launch the satellites into orbit.
"Iran’s current defense and technological capabilities can be largely credited to Rafsanjani's efforts," Rouhani asserted.
He went on to describe the late Rafsanjani as a “unique political figure” who had played a “vital role” during Iran’s devastating eight-year war with Iraq in the 1980s.
In his address, Rouhani provided no further details regarding the planned satellite launches.
