ANKARA (AA) - Iranian television anchor Marzieh Hashemi, who was detained in the U.S. 10 days ago, was released from custody on Thursday.

According to Iran’s Press TV, which employs Hashemi, the television presenter was held as a “material witness” in a criminal case and no formal charges have been leveled against her.

Hashemi, who was born in the U.S. and later converted to Islam, had been visiting her family in St. Louis, Missouri when she was detained.

She was later referred to an FBI office where she says she was treated “humiliatingly”.

Hashemi had filmed a documentary on the “Black Lives Matter” activist group during her stay in St. Louis, her son told Al Jazeera.

The U.S. district judge in Washington DC, which has jurisdiction over the case, has refrained from providing details about the criminal case in which Hashemi reportedly served as a witness.
