Top audit court says Mahmoud Ahmedinejad ordered transfer of oil revenues illegally to state treasury

ISTANBUL (AA) - Iran's top audit court asked former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to compensate billions of dollars in loss that occurred as a result of violations in oil revenues in 2009, the country's state-run news agency said Thursday.

According to ICANA news agency, the State Inspectorate Organization said the violation occurred during Ahmedinejad's term where his office wired money obtained from oil revenues and transfered them to the state treasury.

There were also irregularities in oil imports, it said.

The agency stated that the irregularities were found during a parliamentary budget audit of 2016.

Golamriza Tacgerdun, Chairman of the Iranian Parliament's Plan and Budget Commission, told ICANA that the officials were inspecting related files.

"Iranian National Oil Company imported petroleum products illegally on the order of former President Ahmadinejad and money was transferred from company revenues to the treasury," Tacgerdun said.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad served two terms as president from 2005 to 2013 in Iran.
