Resignation of parliament speaker rejected by 222-13 votes
BAGHDAD (AA) – Iraqi lawmakers on Wednesday voted to reject the resignation of Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi.
The resignation was rejected by 222-13 votes, the assembly said in a statement.
“The Parliament voted to renew confidence in al-Halbousi,” the statement added.
The parliament speaker tendered his resignation on Monday amid a months-long political crisis in Iraq since last year.
Iraq has been locked in a deep political crisis in recent months amid the failure of Shia groups to agree on a new prime minister since the country’s last elections on Oct. 10, 2021.
