Ismail Haniyeh: Anadolu Agency is voice of voiceless

ANKARA (AA) - The head of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, hailed Anadolu Agency's role in covering the news of the Muslim world and the Palestinian issue in particular.

"We in Hamas and the Palestinian people are proud of AA's coverage of the news in Palestine, mainly its coverage for Jerusalem affairs, prisoners' suffering and Gaza blockade," said Haniyeh in a letter he sent to Anadolu Agency's director-general, Senol Kazanci.

In the letter, sent to mark the agency's centenary, Haniyeh added that Anadolu Agency "has demonstrated a great keenness to convey the truth in Palestine and expose the crimes being committed by the Israeli occupation there."

"Our gratitude to AA [Anadolu Agency] is due to its great interest in covering the Muslims' issues and to its professional, accurate, rapid and informative news coverage," he added.

Haniyeh went on to call on the news agency to continue its coverage that "seeks to be the voice of the oppressed in the whole world -- to be the voice of the voiceless."

Anadolu Agency on April 6, 2020, will celebrate its centenary. It was established 100 years ago by Mustafa Kemal, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, to tell the world about the Turkish national struggle for independence.

The news agency currently publishes news stories in Turkish, English, Arabic, Russian, French, Spanish, Kurdish/Kurmanji, Kurdish/Sorani, Persian, Indonesian, Bosnian, Albanian and Macedonian.
