Israel demolishes 3 new Palestinian homes in West Bank

Israeli army cites lack of building permits for demolitions

By Awad al-Rujoub

RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) – The Israeli army on Monday demolished three Palestinian-owned homes in the occupied West Bank, according to a local committee.

In a statement, the Settlement and Wall Resistance Commission said a two-story house was razed in the town of Kufr al-Dik, west of Salfit city in the northern West Bank.

Human rights activist Aref Jaber said another two Palestinian homes inhabited by eight Palestinians were demolished east of Hebron city in the southern West Bank.

He said the Israeli army cites lack of building permits for the demolitions.

Meanwhile, Fouad al-Amour, the coordinator of the local Protection and Resilience Committee, said the Israeli army plans to demolish a school in the southern West Bank within 96 hours on the ground of lacking a construction permit.

He said the school serves 35 students from Bedouin communities in the area.

Israel widely uses the pretext of lack of construction permits to demolish Palestinian homes, especially in Area C in the occupied West Bank, which constitutes around 60% of its space.

Under the 1995 Oslo Accords between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, was divided into three portions – Area A, B, and C.

Area C is under Israel’s administrative and security control until a final status agreement is reached with the Palestinians.
