Israel detains Hamas MP in West Bank raid

The MP was among ten Palestinians rounded up by Israeli forces in overnight raids

RAMALLAH, Palestine (AA) – Israeli forces detained a Hamas-affiliated lawmaker in overnight raids in Israel-occupied West Bank on Wednesday, according to a Palestinian NGO.

Mohammed Badr of Hamas's parliamentary bloc, the Change and Reform Party, was arrested from his home, Qadura Fares, head of the Palestinian Prisoners Society, told Anadolu Agency.

He said the MP was among ten Palestinians rounded up by Israeli forces in overnight raids in the West Bank.

There was no comment from the Israeli military.

Wednesday's arrest takes the number of Hamas lawmakers in Israeli prisons to 12, according to the Palestinian Commission for Prisoners' Affairs.

The Israeli army frequently carries out sweeping arrest campaigns in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem that ostensibly target Palestinians "wanted" by the Israeli occupation authorities.

Around 6,500 Palestinians are languishing in Israeli prisons, according to Palestinian figures.
