Israel detects rocket attack attempts from Syria
Israeli army says unsuccessful attack was perpetrated by Iranian-backed Shia militias
By AbdelRaouf Arnaout
JERUSALEM (AA) - The Israeli army on Monday said it had spotted "failed" rocket launch attempts from Syrian territory towards Israel.
"In the early hours of the morning, a failed launching of a number of missiles from Syria was spotted," the army said in a statement, adding that the projectiles "did not cross into Israel."
The Israeli army said the attempts were carried out by "Shia militias led by Iran's Quds Forces from the outskirts of Damascus."
It went on to hold the Assad regime responsible for activities that take place in Syria.
Also, Avichay Adraee, an Israel army spokesman, said on Twitter: "We warn the regime of Bashar al-Assad that it will pay a heavy price for allowing the Iranians and Shia militias to operate within its territory, where he turns a blind eye and even cooperates with them."
