Israel rearrests hunger-striking Palestinian in W. Bank

Adnan Khader was arrested in Israeli raid on his home

By Qays Abu Samra

JENIN, West Bank (AA) – Israeli forces on Monday rearrested a Palestinian man, who was released a few months ago after a months-long hunger strike.

Adnan Khader was arrested in an Israeli raid on his home in the town of Arraba in the West Bank city of Jenin, local residents said.

The Israeli military has yet to issue an official statement on the arrest.

Khader had drawn international attention last year when he launched a 55-day long hunger strike to protest his imprisonment under Israel’s policy of administrative detention.

He was later set free after reaching an agreement with Israeli authorities for his release.

Under the policy of administrative detention, prisoners can be held without trial for periods ranging from six months to one year.

Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian homes in the occupied West Bank and detain local Palestinians, claiming they are "wanted" by Israeli security agencies.

Over 6,000 Palestinians are currently languishing in prisons throughout the self-proclaimed Jewish state, according to official Palestinian figures.
