Israel to let $30M enter Gaza under ceasefire: Report
Funds part of deal between Hamas and Israel that includes transfer of $50 million from Qatar to Gaza
By Esat Firat
JERUSALEM (AA) - Israel will allow the delivery of $30 million in financial aid from Qatar to the Gaza Strip as part of a ceasefire agreement with Palestinian resistance group Hamas, Israel's Kan public broadcaster reported.
In November, Hamas and Israel agreed on a ceasefire that included the delivery of $50 million from Qatar to Gaza in periodical transfers, and $20 million has been transferred so far, the report said.
The Israeli military pounded the coastal enclave over the weekend with airstrikes and artillery barrages while Gaza-based resistance factions responded by firing rockets towards southern Israel.
The violence ended at dawn on Monday, when a ceasefire -- the exact terms of which remain unclear -- went into effect.
No statement on the issue has been made by Hamas.
At least 27 Palestinians were killed in the exchange and scores more injured, while four Israelis were killed, according to Israeli media reports.
The escalation began last Friday when four Palestinians were killed by Israeli military strikes on Hamas-affiliated positions in Gaza.
