Israeli court orders release of Jerusalem governor

Ghaith was detained on July 19 in Israeli raid on his home in Jerusalem

JERUSALEM (AA) – An Israeli court on Tuesday ordered the release of Jerusalem governor Adnan Ghaith after a two-week detention, according to a statement issued by the governor’s office.

Ghaith was arrested by Israeli forces on July 19 after a raid on his home in Jerusalem.

The charges against the governor remain unclear.

The statement said the governor will be released on condition that he will not communicate with Palestinian Intelligence officer in Jerusalem Jihad al-Faqih nor with leader of Fatah group in al-Eizariya, Sami Abu Ghalia.

The Israeli authorities have intensified their crackdown to Palestinian activities and Palestinians figures in occupied Jerusalem in recent months.

International law continues to view East Jerusalem, along with the entire West Bank, as "occupied territories" and considers all Jewish settlement construction there as illegal.
