ISTANBUL (AA) - Applications for Istanbul Photo Awards 2020, organized by Anadolu Agency for the 6th time, are now closed.
Applications opened on Nov. 1 and closed on Feb. 15.
Every year, photographers from more than 100 countries apply for the contest.
Along with media organizations, the contest also has drawn attention from freelance journalists. This year, more than 10,000 photographs have been sent in.
The contest is organized in four categories: Single News, Story News, Single Sports and Story Sports.
Among the applications for the contest are photographs from important events around the world from Paris to Sydney, and Hong Kong to Syria.
The international jury board of the contest, consisting of the most prestigious names in the photography world, will meet in March in Turkey to select the winners.
Among the jury are Yuri Kozyrev, a Netherlands-based NOOR Agency photojournalist; Marion Mertens, senior digital editor with Paris Match in France; Michel Scotto, head of photo business development with AFP; Deborah Copaken, an American author and photojournalist; Georges De Keerle, a photojournalist and visual media consultant; Cameron Spencer, chief photojournalist at Getty Images Sports; Ahmet Sel, a senior photojournalist; Anadolu Agency Visual News Editor-in-Chief Hasan Oymez and Anadolu Agency Photography Editor Firat Yurdakul.
This year, the winner of the Photo of the Year in Single News category will be awarded $8,000, while winners in other categories will be given $5,000 for first prize, $3,000 for second prize and $1,500 for third.
Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and Turkish Airlines co-sponsor the international news photo contest.
