IYI Party against new resolution on 'Kurdish issue'

Opposition IYI Party leader Aksener urges government not to establish any dialogue with jailed PKK head terrorist Ocalan

ANKARA (AA) - The Turkish government should not undertake a new resolution process on the Kurdish issue, said an opposition party leader on Tuesday.

"We call for a new term of inactivity in which tension is reduced and concrete solutions are discussed," Meral Aksener, head of the IYI (Good) Party, told her party's parliamentary group.

The IYI Party does not want the government to establish any dialogue with Abdullah Ocalan, the jailed leader of the terrorist group PKK, and “should not attempt to carry out a new resolution process," she said.

Aksener added that Turkey's issues cannot be solved "by shouting slogans and making heroics."

In early 2013, under then-Prime Minister and current President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey’s government launched a process to end the decades-old conflict with the PKK.

The process stalled in 2015 after the murder of a number of police officers and soldiers, which the PKK claimed responsibility for.

In its 30-year terrorist campaign, the PKK has taken some 40,000 lives, including women and children.
