Jordan border guards kill 5 'infiltrators' from Syria

AMMAN (AA) – Jordanian border guards have killed five people trying to cross border from Syria, the military said on Sunday.

An army statement, citing a military source, said border guards had dealt with nine vehicles trying to approach the Jordanian border from Syria.

The source said the forces had applied the rules of engagement on a vehicle and two motorcycles approaching the border, killing five people.

According to the statement, two people had also been detained while trying to cross the Jordanian border from Syria.

Jordan shares a 375-kilometer border with next-door Syria, which fell into civil war in 2011.

There are more than 1.3 million Syrian refugees in Jordan.
