Jordan declares new wave of COVID-19

AMMAN, Jordan (AA) – Jordan confirmed Tuesday that the country has entered a fifth wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

“The new COVID wave is caused by the Omicron variant BA5,” Bassam Hijjawi, a member of the National Committee for Epidemics, said in statements cited by the state-run Al-Mamlaka TV.

He said the numbers of infections began to rise as of the end of last month.

Jordan reported one fatality and 2,135 infections from COVID-19 last week.

The Arab country has so far registered 1,700,526 virus cases, including 14,068 deaths.
