Jordan’s King Abdullah II pays official visit to Egypt

CAIRO (AA) - Jordan's King Abdullah II arrived in the Egyptian capital on Tuesday for an official visit, according to a source at Cairo International Airport.

"Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi received King Abdullah and his accompanying delegation upon the latter’s arrival," the source, speaking anonymously as he was not authorized to talk to media, said.

Al-Sisi and the Jordanian monarch are expected to hold talks later Tuesday, according to Egypt’s official MENA news agency.

The Egyptian presidency, for its part, has yet to provide details regarding the visit.

Earlier Tuesday, Egypt’s state-run Al-Ahram newspaper reported that talks would be held at the presidential palace east of Cairo.

"The Palestinian issue and the Mideast peace process are expected to top the agenda, along with the upcoming Arab summit to be hosted by Jordan next month," Al-Ahram reported.

King Abdullah's visit to Egypt is the second of its kind within the last six months.

He paid a similar visit to Cairo in August of last year, during which he spoke with al-Sisi about a range of regional issues.
