Kazakhstan holds military drills to check 'combat readiness' of ground forces
9,000 military personnel involved in 'combat training missions' until Sept. 23: Defense Ministry

NUR SULTAN, Kazakhstan (AA) - Kazakhstan is continuing with military exercises involving 9,000 troops to check the combat readiness of its ground forces, the Defense Ministry said on Monday.

"The ground forces completed a number of combat training missions. The combat readiness of the troops, the ability of servicemen to act in new conditions, in unfamiliar terrain, are tested," the ministry said in a statement.

Different combat training missions were carried out at a training ground near Aktau, at the Koktal mountain range in Almaty region, Shygys training ground in East Kazakhstan, and Terenozek training ground in Kyzylorda region.

Besides the soldiers, weapons and military equipment, including 66 aircraft and eight ships are also part of the drills, which will continue until Sept. 23.

Earlier, the ministry said troops were transferred to the western and southern regions of Kazakhstan as part of the "surprise check of combat readiness."
