Kazakhstan’s population up by 1.3% in 2021

Population of Central Asia's largest country tops 19M, according national statistics agency

NUR SULTAN, Kazakhstan (AA) – Kazakhstan’s population topped 19 million in 2021, up by 1.3% compared to the previous year, the country’s statistical authority said on Wednesday.

The Kazakh Bureau of the National Statistics Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms issued a report on the country’s population in 2021.

Accordingly, the population of Central Asia’s largest country reached 19.12 million last year with 246,000 additions.

During the same period, the population increased in 11 out of 17 regions in the country, while it decreased in the North Kazakhstan, Kostanay, Pavlodar, and East Kazakhstan bordering Russia.

While the urban population increased by 1.83% to reach 11.356 million, the number of those living in rural areas decreased by 0.54% to 7.770 million.

According to the census results last year, the rate of Kazakhs in the country exceeded 70% of the total population.
