Kingpin El Chapo guilty in US court on drug charges

WASHINGTON (AA) - Mexican cartel leader Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman was found guilty Tuesday for crimes related to smuggling drugs into the U.S.

Facing trial in a federal court in Brooklyn, New York, Guzman was found guilty of all 10 counts, including conspiracy to launder narcotics proceeds and smuggling more than 200 tons of cocaine into the U.S., according to multiple reports.

Guzman, 61, was extradited to Washington in 2017 following his arrest by Mexican authorities. He was held in solitary confinement for two years.

The three-month trial ended with Guzman facing life in prison.
