ANKARA (AA) - The Russian and U.S. presidents could meet in Vietnam next week, a Kremlin spokesman said Friday.

Dmitry Peskov said discussions were underway to arrange a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Da Nang.

“We do not rule out the possibility of holding such a meeting, indeed, it is now being negotiated,” Peskov said, according to the official TASS news agency.

Peskov said the importance of any contact between Putin and Trump “can hardly be overestimated”.

Trump told broadcaster Fox News on Thursday that he would meet Putin in Vietnam to discuss North Korea.

The summit is taking place on Nov. 8-10.

News of the possible meeting came as Trump faced increased pressure in the U.S. over ties between his election campaign and Russia.

On Monday, investigators revealed a campaign aide had agreed to cooperate after admitting lying to the FBI and Paul Manafort, Trump’s former campaign manager, was charged with conspiracy and money-laundering.

Putin and Trump first met in July at a G-20 summit in Hamburg, Germany.
