TUBAN, Indonesia (AA) - Landslides and flooding have killed at least 12 people on the Indonesian island of Bali, it was confirmed on Friday.
National Disaster Management Agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho told Anadolu Agency torrential rain caused landslides in three villages in Bangli Regency, Bali Province.
He said a landslide in Awan Village buried a house, killing four residents.
Five houses in Songan village were also engulfed, killing seven people, injuring two others seriously and leaving another two with minor injuries.
"A landslide in Sukawana village only killed one villager," Nugroho added.
He warned heavy rain is expected to continue for the next two days in some areas of Bali.
Seasonal rains often cause flooding and landslides in Indonesia, which is comprised of a chain of 17,000 islands where millions of people live in mountainous areas or flood-prone plains close to rivers.
The agency said at least 1,985 disasters occurred during 2016, killing a total of 375 people -- the worst death toll for 10 years.
