BOGOTA, Colombia (AA) – Countries from Latin America and Caribbean emphasized the need for enhanced regional integration as they concluded a summit in Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires.

In the final declaration of the 7th Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) on Tuesday, the nations pledged decisive efforts for greater integration and consensus on issues of common interest.

The “Declaration of Buenos Aires” called for Cuba to be removed from the US' list of state sponsors of terrorism, and expressed support for Argentina’s claim over the disputed Malvinas Islands, also known as the Falklands.

The countries urged developed nations to contribute to disaster risk management efforts and fulfill their pledges for climate financing, while vowing to contribute more to the global fight against narcotics.

They also welcomed the dialogue between Venezuela’s government and opposition.

Argentina’s Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero said the summit prioritized a commitment to democracy, consensus on common issues, and sustainable economic recovery.

In his recorded message, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro pressed Latin American and Caribbean countries to put up a united front on issues of sovereignty and independence, and to deter interventionism by foreign powers.
