Latin American countries report new COVID-19 cases, fatalities

Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Bolivia, Uruguay, Paraguay struggle against pandemic

BOGOTA, Colombia (AA) – Countries across Latin America reported new cases of COVID-19 infections, as well as fatalities, according to official data released on Friday.


- Brazil

At least 1,041 people in Brazil lost their lives in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths by coronavirus to 630,001, the country’s Health Ministry data showed.

During the same period, 298,408 more people tested positive, taking the total number of cases to 26.91 million.


- Mexico

Mexico’s COVID-19 case tally surged by 41,115, while fatalities increased by 648 in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry.

Over 5 million cases, 308,141 fatalities, and 4.2 million recoveries have been recorded in the country of 126 million people.


- Colombia

Colombia’s Health Ministry reported 262 more virus-related deaths in the last 24 hours, bringing the nationwide death toll to 134,043.

The total number of cases surpassed 5.93 million, with 13,568 new infections, while the number of recoveries rose to over 5.7 million.


- Argentina

With 42,437 new infections in the past 24 hours, Argentina’s caseload increased to over 8.51 million, according to Health Ministry data.

The nationwide death toll rose to 122,152 after 318 patients died in the past 24 hours.

More than 7.94 million recoveries have so far been reported.


- Peru

Peru reported 81 fatalities in the last 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 206,406, according to the Health Ministry.

The number of coronavirus cases in the country rose by 10,842 to reach over 3.3 million. More than 33 million people have been cured of the virus.


- Chile

Chile reported 82 deaths related to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, pushing the death toll to 39,824, according to the country’s Health Ministry.

The number of infections increased by 35,197 as well, bringing the total caseload to more than 2.25 million. So far, over 2 million people have recovered.


- Bolivia

According to data from Bolivia’s Health Ministry, 28 more people died from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, pushing the death toll to 21,073.

The country reported 3,396 new cases, raising the total number of infections to 867,071, while recoveries reached 709,082.


- Uruguay

According to the Uruguayan Health Ministry, 39 more COVID-19 patients died in the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 6,579.

The country reported 10,015 new cases, taking the total number of infections to 700,511, while 627,307 people so far have recovered from the virus.


- Paraguay

According to the Paraguayan Health Ministry, 50 more people died from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 17,476.

The country reported 3,740 new cases, taking the total number of infections to 598,170, with 515,970 people having recovered from the disease thus far.
