Lebanese army strikes Daesh positions near Syria border

BEIRUT (AA) - The Lebanese army has struck several positions associated with the Daesh terrorist group near the Syrian border, according to an army statement issued on Thursday.

“Our forces struck terrorist positions near the border cities of Ras Baalbek and Al-Qaa using heavy artillery, missile launchers and helicopters,” the statement read.

While the army said that the strikes had caused a significant number of casualties among Daesh’s ranks, it did not provide an exact death toll.

Within the same context, the U.S. military will continue providing the Lebanese army with military supplies with which to fight the terrorist group, high-ranking Lebanese military sources were quoted as saying by the local press Thursday.

On Sunday, the Lebanese army wrested control of three strategic hills on the outskirts of Arsal and Ras Baalbek, both of which overlook nearby Daesh strongholds.

One week earlier, Lebanon’s Hezbollah group managed to seize control of Arsal’s outskirts near the Syrian border.
