TRIPOLI (AA) - Ankara’s Ambassador to Tripoli, Serhat Aksen, met Tuesday with the new UN Special Envoy to Libya Jan Kubis, with the Turkish envoy reaffirming Turkey's full support for the new mission.

Aksen and Kubis discussed efforts for the approval of the new government and exchanged views on ways to ensure stability in Libya during the meeting at the Turkish Embassy in Tripoli, according to a statement by the Turkish Embassy.

UN chief Antonio Guterres announced Jan. 18 the start of Kubis’ duties as his special envoy and head of the UN Mission in Libya (UNMIL) beginning in early February.

On Feb. 5, Libya's rival political groups agreed to form an interim unity government that will lead the country to elections in December.

Mohammad Younes Menfi was elected president with Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh as prime minister.
