Libya’s premier, Nigerien president discuss irregular migrant crisis

TRIPOLI, Libya (AA) - Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah discussed the irregular migration crisis Wednesday with Niger’s President Mohamed Bazoum.

Dbeibah paid an official visit to Niger and met with Bazoum in the capital Niamey, according to a statement from the Libyan government.

During the meeting, the two men discussed the strengthening of economic relations and investment opportunities and agreed on the establishment of the Libya-Niger High Committee. No information was provided on the task of the committee.

The irregular migrant issue on the Niger-Libya border was also discussed. Dbeibah said the protection of borders is an inevitable duty.

The border region between Libya and Niger is seen as the point of departure for many irregular migrants, who are trying to cross into Europe via Tripoli after entering Libya.
