Libya's Presidential Council mourns intelligence chief

Al-Tuhami died of heart attack in Tripoli on Sunday

By Waleed Abdullah

TRIPOLI (AA) – Libya's Presidential Council has mourned intelligence chief Abdul Qader al-Tuhami, who died in the capital Tripoli earlier Sunday.

"Our country has lost one of its loyal sons, who maintained honesty and responsibility during one of the most difficult periods in the country," the council said in a statement.

The council offered condolences to al-Tuhami's family and the people of his hometown Aqar in southern Libya.

A Libyan security source earlier said al-Tuhami died of a heart attack at his home in Tripoli.

Al-Tuhami had served as an officer in the external security service under late ruler Muammar Gaddafi.

In April 2017, he was appointed by Libya's Presidential Council as head of the intelligence service.
