Liverpool beat Benfica 3-1 in Champions League quarterfinals 1st leg

Reds' goals come from Konate, Mane, Diaz; Nunez scores only goal of Portuguese team

ANKARA (AA) - Liverpool beat Benfica 3-1 in a UEFA Champions League quarterfinals first leg match Tuesday.

Ibrahima Konate drew first blood for Liverpool in the 17th minute at the Estadio da Luz.

Senegalese star Sadio Mane made it 2-0 for the Reds in the 34th minute, and the first half ended 2-0.

Darwin Nunez gave Benfica a lifeline in the 47th minute, but Luis Diaz made it 3-1 for the English team in the 87th minute and sealed the deal.

Liverpool will host Benfica at Anfield on April 14 in the second leg of the quarterfinals.

Villareal will host Bayern Munich while Chelsea will take on Real Madrid at home in the other quarterfinals first leg matches Wednesday.
