Lockheed Martin, GlobalFoundries join forces for chip manufacturing

ISTANBUL (AA) – US aerospace and defense company Lockheed Martin announced Monday that it will collaborate with semiconductor maker and designer GlobalFoundries for chip manufacturing.

The collaboration aims to advance the US' semiconductor manufacturing and innovation and to increase the security, reliability and resiliency of domestic supply chains for national security systems, the company said in a statement.

The partnership also directly supports the US President Joe Biden administration's CHIPS and Science Act and its objectives of increasing domestic production of critical semiconductor technologies to strengthen national and economic security and supply chains, it added.

GlobalFoundries' manufacturing facilities in the states of New York and Vermont have accreditation from the US government and are authorized to produce secure chips for use in the nation’s most sensitive systems on land, air, sea, and in space, it noted.

The CHIPS and Science Act was signed into law by Biden in August 2022, as it sets aside $52.7 billion to increase production of US-made semiconductors, address supply chain vulnerabilities by producing more goods in the US, and bolster domestic scientific research.
