Louisville police release bodycam video of deadly bank shooting that left 5 dead

HOUSTON, US (AA) - Police in Louisville, Kentucky released dramatic officer bodycam footage Tuesday of a deadly bank shooting the previous day that left five people dead and eight others injured.

The shooter, Connor Sturgeon, 25, was an employee at Old National Bank in Louisville. After carrying out his shooting rampage, Sturgeon was gunned down by police.

“I think I got him down. I think he's down!” said Officer Corey Galloway on the bodycam footage after he shot Sturgeon.

Authorities said Sturgeon was armed with an AR-15-style semi-automatic weapon and live-streamed his shooting rampage.

Officers arrived at the scene within three minutes of being dispatched to the shooting at 8.38 a.m., but by the time they got there, officials said Sturgeon had already killed the victims and was waiting in the lobby to "ambush" officers.

Sturgeon fired at officers at 8.44 a.m., where they returned fire, with Galloway taking down the shooter. When police entered the building one minute later, they confirmed Sturgeon was dead.

Two officers were shot and wounded during the shootout. Officer Nickolas Wilt, a brand new officer on the force, was shot in the head, while Galloway suffered a minor gunshot wound.

"I don't have an angle," Galloway can be heard saying in the video after being struck by one of Sturgeon's shots and had to take cover behind a planter.

After killing the shooter, Galloway called for fellow officers to rescue the wounded Wilt.

"Get the officer out now. Take him down the stairs!" he shouted as he ran up the stairs and entered the lobby searching for the gunman.

Police say that Sturgeon had been a full-time employee at the bank since 2021.
