ANKARA (AA) - France will ask social media companies to reveal the identity of users who are calling for riots and disorder, the president said on Friday as he chaired an emergency meeting following a third night of protests triggered after a fatal police shooting of a 17-year-old.

Emmanuel Macron told a news conference in Paris that groups were scheduling and organizing protests via large social platforms.

The government will also take action for removal of the "most sensitive" rioting content, he said, and urged parents to act responsibly and prevent their children from joining the riots.

"In this context, we call all parents for acting responsibly," he said. "The current context is the outcome of organized and equipped groups but also many youngsters. A third of the arrested people are young, even very young."

"It is their parents' duty to keep them home," he stressed, adding that social media networks play an important role in this situation, TikTok and Snapchat in particular.

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin will take additional measures in the next hours, the president added.

France is jolted by protests after Nahel M. was shot dead by police during a traffic stop in the Parisian suburb of Nanterre on Tuesday.
