- An armed group in northern Ethiopia attempts to overthrow the local government. Chief of General Staff Se'are Mekonnen and Ambachew Mekonnen President of Amhara region are assassinated during the attack.

- Georgian Parliament Speaker Irakli Kobakhidze resigns following violent protests in the capital of Tbilisi.

- The coup attempt against Ethiopia’s northern Amhara regional state government fails.

- Turkey’s opposition Republican People’s Party’s (CHP) mayoral candidate Ekrem Imamoglu wins a do-over election in Istanbul.


June 24

- U.S. President Donald Trump signs a presidential decree introducing new sanctions against Iran, including Iran's spiritual leader Ali Khamenei.
