Turkey, Russia, Iran on Sept. 16 stress strong commitment to Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity in joint statement

SEPTEMBER

Sept. 1

- Saudi-led coalition fighter jets strike a prison by the Houthis in southwestern Yemeni province of Dhamar, killing 156 and wounding 50 others.

- Category-5 hurricane, Dorian, hits the Bahamas and southern shores of the U.S., leading to $3.4 billion material damage in the Bahamas, death of 73 and disappearance of hundreds.

- At least 100 people are reported killed in a fresh fighting between the Afghan government forces and Taliban in northern provinces of Faryab and Kunduz.

Sept. 2

- An agreement on paper is reached in principle with the Taliban, top U.S. peace negotiator Zalmay Khalilzad says, adding that the U.S. forces will vacate five military bases in Afghanistan in initial 135 days after signing of the deal.

- Britain’s House of Commons passes a bill that blocks a no-deal Brexit on Oct. 31 in a crucial vote.

- Sudan and South Sudan agree to fully cooperate to ensure peace, officials of the two countries said.

- Final parts of the second battery of the Russian S-400 missile defense system arrive in capital Ankara, Turkish National Defense Ministry says.
